ORIGIN & IDENTITY

The spectacular progress that the Cretan vineyard presents in recent years has brought remarkable wines to our glasses .

So we welcome summer with the exceptional white OCEAN variety Thrapsathiri from the area of Venerato in Malevizi province of the Prefecture of Heraklion where the headquarters of IDAIA winery are found, created by oenologists Kalliopi Volitaki and Vassilis Laderos.

Crete was named Idaia in ancient times after the mother of the Kourites, legendary warriors who played a role in the protection and upbringing of the newborn Zeus.

With vineyards at an altitude of 500 meters, IDAIA winery vinifies red and white Cretan varieties, mainly having eight dry and one sweet wine in its range.

Wine Description

Light lemon color with green layers.

On the nose, the intense aromas of lemon blossom, citrus, lime, grapefruit and unripe pear are beautifully combined with aromatic herbs flavor.

The medium volume mouth is characterized by high and crunchy acidity ideally integrated into the whole along with a discreetly oily texture and imperceptible salinity.

It remains enjoyable until its last sip giving a long and persistent aftertaste.

Harmony with Food

It is a purely gastronomic wine that can be splendidly combined with seafood along with other summer flavors of Greek cuisine.

Start with a glass of OCEAN Thrapsathiri accompanied by guacamole dip and baked tortillas.

Serve the first course with crispy zucchini chips with yoghurt mousse. The lively acidity of OCEAN will be additionally harmonized with steamed mussels or sea-bass ceviche

Leafy vegetable salad and flavored cream cheese but also sea urchin salad will magnificently blend with the wine. For a more advanced taste experience, try it with parsley salad by Syros.

Waiting impatiently for the main course give it the opportunity to accompany fried shrimps tempura and grilled small crayfish.

The curtain will close pleasantly with boiled lobster with lemon olive oil, a dish that in combination with OCEAN Thrapsathiri will lift the senses.

Those who are not fans of seafood can enjoy it with delicious vegetable pies, fennel meatballs, vine leaves stuffed with rice- as cooked in Crete- or stuffed cabagge with egg and lemon sauce.

In closing, I would like to note that the OCEAN Thrapsathiri of IDAIA winery is exported to Europe and United States of America while with the  awards and distinctions it receives, it contributes positively to the methodical building of Greek wines‘ brand abroad.
