The term chalet comes from the Arpitan-speaking part of Switzerland and the French Savoy region, and originally referred to the hut of a herder. It was often embedded in the ground for the sake of temperature buffering.
Many chalets in the European Alps were originally used as seasonal farms for dairy cattle, which would be brought up from the lowland pastures during the summer months. The herders would live in the chalet and make butter and cheese in order to preserve the milk produced. These products would then be taken, with the cattle, back to the low valleys before the onset of the alpine winter. The chalets would remain locked and unused during the winter months. Around many chalets there are small windowless huts called mazots which were used to lock away valuable items for this period.

The 15 traditional stone houses of “Rouga” complex are nestled a few meters away from the central square of the village. This is the main reason to say “yes” and head to Palios Agios Athanasios, enjoying the hospitality of the locals.
All traditional houses are self-contained, some of them are single-room and other two rooms with the same amenities. These are equipped with a fireplace and individual bathroom.
In “Rouga”, you will find a fully equipped Spa that promises relaxation and renewal. Indulge to a rejuvenating hot stone massage or a lift spirited aromatherapy. Those , who are less familiar with the techniques of massage can simply lavish the tranquil atmosphere of Jacuzzi or sauna.

Chalet Chamois extends to 850sqm and is arranged over two levels. The building is fully renovated, and the study for the interior and exterior was designed from the beginning, creating a functional, comfortable and quality dining environment.
The aesthetics harmonize quietly with the natural environment. The warmth of wood and earthy colours combined with the simple lines create a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. The large windows around give the feeling of endlessness, offering a unique view.
The word “Chamois” refers to the spectacular species of chamois Rupicarpa that inhabits the Alps, the Pyrenees, the Carpathians, the Balkans, the Caucasus and the Apennine Mountains.
Chalet Chamois acquires an elegant restaurant. The layout of the spacious hall can accommodate small and large groups, a corporate dinner, social and business events. It is also an ideal space for presentations, tasting events, receptions, children’s parties or even small parties with special art de la table.
The elevated entrance area with the large bar and café-lounge, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, offers a rich menu of coffee, drinks, soft drinks, food and sweets. On sunny days, the terrace is another option for coffee.
