Douma Vital Farm is the 1st bison breeding farm in Greece located in a green plateau of 8000 acres on the slopes of Antichasion in Larissa.
In 1999, after 15 years experience in breeding pure bred cattle, Thomas Doumas founded the company “Douma Vital Farm”. His vision was to produce and distribute organic farming products of the highest quality.
Since 2001, the farm has supplied the Greek market with certified organic bison, wild boar and black pork(sausage and fresh meat).
The Douma family estate is located in a green plateau on the slopes of Antichasion, not far from Megalo Eleftherohori a village in the Municipality of Elassona in Larissa County. That is where the animals that they accommodate live and reproduce freely in a fenced/secured area of 8,000 acres.
Besides fenced pastures, the estate includes 4.5 acres of stables, with state of the art facilities for the cattle and the production and it is also the residence of Doumas family.
The representative of the farm, Vicky Douma, discusses about the course of the estate, the products as well as the restaurant that the family operates with the special flavors that is offering in collaboration with Chefs Sotiris Evangelou and Dimitris Tziovaras.
H.A: Douma Vital Farm is the 1st Greek bison farm.What stimulated you to be involved in professionally?
V.D: Bison’s uniqueness, his beauty, his vigor, his history, pushed us to his breeding.
With our love and respect as cornerstones, this animal has been bred and procreated since 2001 on our Farm, providing us with the finest red meat of the entire world !!!
H.A: What are the products that have been stood out and which of them have already earned their rightful place in our daily table?
V.D: The organic rearing of our farm offers us bio products of high nutritional value.
The bison sausage and the smoked leg by the native breed of black pig, are products that were cherished by the people and found their place in our daily diet.
H.A: What are the advantages of bison meat over other cattle?
V.D: Bison meat is the top choice in regards to red meat.
It is distinguished for its rich and full-bodied taste, its tender texture and its unique aroma. It is high in protein, with very low percentages of fat, rich in Ω3 fatty acids, iron and trace elements. Ιn a few words, it’s a perfect combination of healthy food and taste.
H.A: You operate a very meticulous restaurant with special flavors on the menu, curated by Chefs Sotiris Evangelou and Dimitris Tziovaras. What is your philosophy and future plans?
