French Embassy was the welcoming host of the book presentation of Syntagologio-Cooking & Health by Chef Iakovos Apergis and Kalendis.gr.

We share the same food – in another form – with the same taste

A different cookbook of salads, pies, main courses and desserts in 37 ground, delicious and nutritious recipes, with dietary analysis.

A book with love and care for food especially for those, who flounder chewing and swallowing food. Suitable recipes, however, for families and  particularly for those whose illness has altered the most important moment of the day… the moment of the meal itself, food.

The hospitable ambassador of France in Greece, Mr. Patrick Maisonnave, preceded the book, referring that “access to quality cuisine is not a privilege reserved for the elite, but a fundamental right”.

That is why I am very happy to welcome the presentation of the cookbook of Iakovos Apergis, who prepares healthy, balanced, qualitative and palatable in flavor dishes at the Piraeus Hospital. A kitchen that offers a little comfort, a bit of sweetness and hope to people who struggle against difficulties. I welcome his commitment as well as that of the other unions present today providing great assistance to people in need by offering them food or shelter.”

Mr. Dimitris Rousounelos, author, columnist of “Gastronomos” magazine, discoursed about the human quality of Iakovos Apergis competing his culinary skill.

Syntagologio is a quintessentially Hippocratic book. It was inspired by a man bent on fighting with his pots and ladles to give redemptive pleasure, like Holy Communion. Chef Iakovos Apergis has vast professional experience in kitchens of hospitals and institutions. His experiential reflection concerns the knowledge of how food can grant joy to the patient, joy that brings health, health that is a component of life, out of nowhere!

It does not promise secret recipes and conjuring dishes. He serves cooking with faith and love for his fellow man. He flavors his dishes with whatever is allowed on a case-by-case basis…. because good health is a right and good food is right and prerequisite of good health”.

Salutation addressed Dr. Stefanos Kalis – Professor at Harvard University School of Medicine.

The evening at the French Embassy was graced with the presence by many friends of Iakovos Apergis, among them the distinguished chefs Mr. Stelios Parliaros, Andreas Lagos, Alexandros Papandreou, Ilias Mamalakis, Dimitris Chronopoulos, Mr. Bekas, Head chef of the Presidential Μansion and Mrs. Dina Nikolaou.

In addition, book presentation at the French Embassy was attended by the president of the social welfare and solidarity institutions as well as cook coordinators and children residing in several institutions. The president of Unesco for Piraeus and Islands Mr. Maronitis as well as representatives of the medical community of various specialties gave a resounding appearance.

With the valuable help of the chef of the French Embassy, Mr. Jean Marie Hoffmann, the attendees had the opportunity to savour some of the multi comfort recipes illustrated at the book “Syntagologio- Cooking & Health”.
