ORIGIN & IDENTITY

One of the pleasures offered by the magical world of wine is that of searching and getting to know special wines born through “unconventional” techniques.

One such case is the famous orange wines, name that came from the special auburn color of the wine as a consequence of the co-existence of white grape must with the marcs for several days, a technique that is known to us since antiquity.

Essentially, we have the application of the method of red vinification in white grapes with the consequence that the aromatic potential is presented due to the extraction while at the same time on the palate we can distinguish body and concentration like those found in light red wines.

The Markogianni Winery is a family business with privately owned vineyeards and a winery to be visited in the enchanting area «Kampos» of Skillountia of the Municipality of Andritsaina- Krestena» near Ancient Olympia

It has been producing wines and spirits since 1982 ,while since 2001 its privately owned vineyards have been cultivated in a certified organic way.

With respect to nature ,therefore, Orange 2019 Markogianni does not contain sulfites and is bottled unfiltered after remaining in contact with its wine-lees for 8 months.

Amber color with clarity slightly limited due to non-filtration.

Complex aromatic character of medium intensity with aromas of dried apricot, fresh citrus and bergamot

Intense nuts and oxidizing elements emerge as time goes by.

Unobtrusive presence of bubbles leads to the exuberant aromas that escalate reminiscent of orange peel and juice, bitter orange and grapefruit

FOOD & WINE PAIRING TIPS

Pure gastronomic wine, Orange 2019 is an ideal companion for «difficult» dishes such as sun-dried okra baked in the oven with fresh tomato sauce and garlic, or fried shrimp tempura with sweet chili sauce.

Try it also with grilled salmon with horseradish sauce or veal with spicy satay sauce.

The rissotto with radicchio will acquire another dimension, but also an exceptional experience the combination of eggpplant salad with carpaccio from smoked octopus.

Due to the season, it would be the solution for lamb, sautéed pork and all the snacks of the Easter table.

Give it time to breathe and enjoy it at a temperature slightly higher than the white ones(12-14 degrees).

Its phenol content and lively acidity will help it age beautifully as a red wine.
