Wooden houses are genuine expressions of home away from home hospitality and personalized services with respect of traditional architecture.

Wooden houses are of particular interest not only to architects, but to interior designers and furniture makers who have often been inspired by their architecture, but also to each of us. Wooden houses can be a valuable as well as a practical guide with the comfort, aesthetics and functionality of a space being the crown of such constructions. These are models of an “ecological” house, absolute harmonized with the natural environment of a place built with available materials, without unnecessary waste. It is no exaggeration to add that most of these houses are considered and are works of art.

Traditional wooden houses have been built for centuries in regions such as Karelia, Lapland, and the eastern parts of Finland. Also in Scandinavia, Russia and Eastern Europe, where they were usually made using only an ax and a hatchet.

In a green landscape, the wooden houses took a new breath in the welcoming embrace of mother earth and grew with love thanks to their owners. Whole tree trunks became their “walls” and their interior gave way to a home of family comfort and atmosphere.

Vasilikia Mountain Farm & Retreat- Pavliani

Vasilikia farm is more than a place of hospitality. It is the burning desire, the love affair of a family that, with passion and affection, decided to transform it into something unprecedented for Greek standards. Since 1984, when it kicked off as a personal refuge from the noisy everyday life, until today, when it has offered hospitality to hundreds of people from all over the world. Vasilikia farm is evolving, keeping family memories alive, popular traditions, conveying insights from long journeys.

The magnificent, green natural landscape, the houses, each made with a different architecture, inspired by North America and the 17th-18th century “American Frontier”, the unique decorative and stylistic details, the colors and textures, the collectibles from all over the world personally selected by the owners, create a slice of heaven, Eden on earth.

“Vasilikia” is the name of a virgin forest with beech trees, in mountainous Macedonia, the birthplace of the senior creator of the farm. The name was given to the Farm as a tribute to his childhood memories, in a forest of rare beauty.

The village of Ano Pavliani, with stone and wood as the main building materials, is in complete harmony with nature.

The drenched, musky vegetation, the towering firs, the rare tree formations and the sound of Asopos springs lure the visitor into a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At the next turn of the path is the heart of the imposing fir forest, where the amusement park has been set up with activities for young and old. There are hammocks, a river volleyball court paved with sawdust and wooden bleachers, picnic benches and a built-in grill.

One of the most unique and original experiences is the passage with a manual cable car over the river. It is worth mentioning that at the point where the path to the aesthetic forest starts, a water park has begun to operate, with looms and water mills, so that visitors can learn how clothes were woven and washed in earlier times.

The residential reconstruction of recent years is due to the inclusion of Pavliani in the Habitat Agenda, a pilot program for the sustainable development and regeneration of traditional villages.
